A Case of Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension Complicated by Platybasia
Kim Dong-Eun

Choi Yun-Ju
Abstract
Platybasia is a malformation at the base of the skull. Clinical manifestations of platybasia include signs and symptoms of brainstem and upper cervical cord compression or disturbances of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation causing obstructive hydrocephalus. Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is characterized by an orthostatic headache. This
condition is usually caused by the leakage of cerebrospinal fluid. A combination of an underlying weakness of the spinal meninges and trivial traumatic event is often found to cause SIH. We report a case of 50-year-old female with clinical and radiographic features of SIH. The patient shows abnormal obtuseness of the skull basal angle without a possible predisposing factors of SIH. This is the extremely rare case of SIH combined with platybasia.
